Jumanji

This piece was created during my stay at the Wabash International Artist Residency in Northern Indiana. I spent a lot of time painting alone while trying to ignore the paranoid notion that this century old manor might be haunted.. Being an urbanite dropped in a rural area I learned quickly how loud silence can really be as I spent time lying awake at night trying to rationalize every creak, crack, and sound I heard.

While lying in the dark I found my consciousness was obstinately traveling in a fluid state, .was that scratch my imagination? was it really as loud as I think it is?… was that a cat?.. The wind?.. the house settling?..

Not being able to tell between objective and subconscious perception inspired this painting, where again it’s fractalized nature reflects the fluidity of our world.
